Best toddler seat, toddler favourite toy, matching toddler clothes, how they are suddenly not fitting? A study conducted by researchers from Ohio State University suggests that the temperament of toddlers may be influenced by different types of gut bacteria.
The study found correlations between specific types of intestinal bacteria and temperament traits in both boys and girls. The researchers believe that understanding these correlations could provide insights into the development of chronic illnesses such as obesity, asthma, allergies, and bowel diseases.
The study analyzed stool samples from 77 children between 18 and 27 months, and found that children with genetically diverse gut bacteria exhibited behaviors related to positive mood, curiosity, sociability, and impulsivity.
The researchers also noted that there is communication between the gut bacteria and the brain, although it is unclear which one initiates the conversation.
The findings suggest that the gut microbiome plays a role in shaping toddler behavior, and may have implications for early prevention of chronic health issues.
