- Why Stop giving milk drink for toddlers?
- Did you know that choosing infant formula and a toddler’s drink are completely different?
- Do you study the ingredients of the drink you give to your toddler?
Misleading labeling on toddler formulas and milks marketed as “toddler drinks” can confuse parents about their healthfulness or necessity, according to a study conducted by researchers at New York University and the University of Connecticut.
The study highlights the lack of oversight and recommendations from health experts regarding these products. “Toddler drinks”, targeted at children aged 9 months to 3 years, contain ingredients like powdered milk, corn syrup, and vegetable oil, but have higher sodium levels and lower protein content compared to cow’s milk.
Despite marketing claims suggesting their nutritional benefits and expert recommendations, organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization do not regulate or endorse “toddler drinks.”
The study calls for improved labeling regulations and guidance from the FDA to ensure accurate information for caregivers and to promote healthy toddler diets.
